Buying a puppy? Have patience!

A good breeder is worth the wait: it’s always nice if you have someone you can always rely on and who can help you with, for example, tips in the field of coat care or training.

Some breeds are not as friendly to all people or as tolerant of other dogs

Some breeds have a low average life expectancy, or may bark, drool, or shed excessively. Be sure to ask breeders and owners to mention the downsides of their breed. We know that they are sweet and fun, but it is useful and wise to be prepared for the less pleasant aspects. And there always is a downside to every dog breed, as no dog is perfect!

Always ask if you can see all of the breeder’s dogs

Do the dogs look healthy, well-groomed and cheerful, and do they live in a clean and safe environment that offers the dogs sufficient challenge? And, very important, do the dogs behave the way you would like your future dog to behave?

Ask questions

Why did a breeder decide to breed with these parent animals? Does he or she have health and behavioral test reports? What does he or she do for socialization and toilet training? Why? Why not? You shouldn’t be the only one asking questions. A breeder who wants the best for their puppies will also ask you a lot of questions to make sure you will be the right owner for his or her puppy to enjoy a happy and fulfilling life.
